Book titles not transferring properly to Kobo Aura H2O

$

I used to use Windows Explorer to side load everything to my Kobo Aura H2O, so to get the series name to show up in series books, I used to type it in the title box along with the book title. (EG. Harry Potter 01 - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone).

I decided I wanted to use Calibre to transfer so I'd get the series name below like you do with regular kepubs. So I redid all 3000+ of my books with title, author, series name and number in the correct locations in Calibre, but I'm having some weird errors now when I send to device.

1) Non-series books are transferring with a dash in front, the title and the author name all on the title line. For example:

- Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen
Jane Austen

2) Series books are loading in like this:

Harry Potter 01 - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - J.K. Rowling
Harry Potter 1
J.K. Rowling

I am wondering if this has to do with how I set up Save to DISK.

{author_sort}/{title}/{series}{series_index:0>2s| | - }{title} - {authors}

I'm using this string so that series books have the series name and number, title and author and standalones books have just the title and author. If I left out the | - then the stand alone books all had blank spaces and dashes (just like they're transferring over). It organizes really nicely in Windows Explorer, but I'm afraid it seems to be messing up send to device (which is set up as {author_sort}/{title} - {authors} ).

Can anyone help so I don't have to redo 3000+ books for the second time this week??

Can't sync ebooks with the same title/author from two different publishers

[running Calibre 4.70 on Windows 10; auto-conversion from EPUB to KEPUB enabled via KoboTouchExtended plugin]

I believe this problem has a very simple solution but I couldn't find it anywhere on the Internet.

I have 5 couples of 'duplicate' EPUBS: in every one of them the ebook was published by two different publishers, and this is correctly detected by Calibre.
However, when I select all ten ebooks (i.e. the 5 couples of 'duplicates') and send them to my Kobo, only one copy per couple will get to the device.

And if I select the 5 'un-synced' ebooks and try to send them again to the device, Calibre will start the operation to convert them in KEPUBS, but the transfer will fail again with no alert appearing on the screen.

This behaviour is different from other instances, where Calibre recognizes two ebooks having the same title or being identical and asks me whether I want to add the ebook anyway or to cancel the transfer.

How do I fix this?

Walmart (Kobo) to Kindle

So I had a credit for some walmart (kobo) ebooks that I used to purchase a couple books... but I don't have a Kobo. I have a kindle. I'm trying to figure out how to get said books from my kobo account over to my kindle device.

I have the kobo windows desktop client installed as well as calibre and adobe digital editions all installed.

The problem is I have no idea how to use these 3 programs to do what I'm trying to do and I can't seem to find any kind of walkthrough anywhere.

My apologies if one exists already. Could someone point me in that direction if so? Thanks!

Connecting to Rakuten Kobo

Hi,
I have an account on Rakuten Kobo and few books in there. I read them on my smartphone with the related App, but I can't download and see them on my computer, a Debian Linux stable with Calibre 3.39.1.
I do not have any e-reader device.

I looked for some solution around the web and in some forums, but can't find out how to solve the problem. How can I do?

Thanks a lot.

[Kindle] calibre losing sight of device after one transfer

Hi,
my calibre ( ubantu version ) has started to lose sight of my kindle after one action either deleting a book or transfering a new book. it comes up with an error message telling me the path does not exist, the ubantu file explorer also no longer sees it. I have to disconect the kinde and reconnect before it can see it and will then perfom another operation. This only happens with my kindle not my partners. i have tried deleting all files from kindle in case there was a corupt file but does not make any diference.

They all behave differently in some cases. There may be a setting for your specific model.

I'm having trouble with my current library and my new KPW[Generation10]. All my books are AZW3 and page numbering has always worked fine with both my old KPW [gen 4 and 7 I think].

I tinkered yesterday but can't seem to get it working ie something about checking to see if 'apnx' files are there, which they are, and I checked my settings in Calibre while my Kindle was plugged in, this was what I had/did;
Checked already ‘read metadata’
Checked already ‘use subdirectories’
Save template filled with: {author_sort}/{title} - {authors}
Checked ‘send page numbers’ it was set to ‘fast’ in the submenu
I changed it to ‘accurate’
Both custom column menu were blank – there’s an option here for page column, I added 'Page'
Checked already overwrite existing apnx on device

I'm sort of tech challenged so I really don't know where else to start. Any patient and simple to follow instructions would be most helpful and appreciated!

ETA: at one point I thought I had it working so I deleted my whole library from my Kindle and re-synced. After waiting for it to index it wasn't working again.

Hi,

I have a Kobo libra H2O and when i connected my kobo to Calibre it used to update in Calibre my reading status "Last read Timestamp" and "Percent read".

Since a month it doesn't do it anymore and i don't understand why.
I updated Calibre to the last update, could that be the cause ?

Thank you,

Hello, as suggested by kovidgoyal, after trying all hints I decided to post my debug log.
I just installed calibre 3.21 on linux mint 19 (Tara).
When I connect my kindle paperwhite via USB, the disk is automatically mounted and I can browse the files. Unmounting the device (as suggested) does not help. The kindle is not in airplane mode. I don't know the device's version, I bought it one month ago.

Here is the log:

[Kobo] Preferred device format overridden?

Hi there. I'm scratching my head with this one.

I recently got a Kobo. I want my ePub files stored in Calibre to be converted into kepub and then transfered to my Kobo. But no matter what I do, Calibre always sends it in ePub format (unless I manually convert it into kepub and then choose to send it in that format).

As you can see in the picture I attached, the KoboTouch plugin is configured to choose kepub as its preferred format. I did also choose kepub as my preferred output format in "Preferences - Behavior", but that didn't work either.

Any ideas? Is it safe to uncheck ePub from the plugin list? (I fear that a book may not be successfully converted into kepub, in that case, I'd like that file to be sent in plain ePub format).

Thank you in advance.

Error Communicating with Device/Nook Glowlight 3

With apologies as I know this has been addressed elsewhere, but unfortunately not in terms I understand. I am not tech savvy, so answers in as non-technical language as possible appreciated.

After a recent Nook update, most of my side loaded files disappeared. When I try to move titles from Calibre, I get the following message and code:

calibre, version 4.8.0
ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device

WindowsError: [Error 3] The system cannot find the path specified: u'F:\\NOOK\\Books'

From previous postings, I understand this is a problem with my reader and not Calibre, but I have updated to 4.8 just to make sure (obviously to no avail).

Appreciate your help. If the advice is to move on to a Kobo or Kindle, I'm open to that too. I have absolutely loved the hardware to this reader, the software has been problematic. Thanks again.

Can't Set Up Calibre in Windows 10 PC

I had Calibre running perfectly on my PC but unfortunately, I had to reinstall Windows on it. The Calibre database is fine on a hard disk (E drive) and Calibre was successfully downloaded to the C drive. When starting it up displays the message shown on the attachment. The details are:

It will not rebuild it although it says it is trying and when I try to set up an empty library is crashes and closes.

I have re-downloaded the software several times and always with the same result. Any help would be appreciated

need to convert kindle books that are only on ipad

$

Hi folks. This is a conundrum. My Amazon account was hacked last year and I had to deactivate it. I opened a new Amazon account. The Kindle books on my iPad (and my wife's) were downloaded from the old account. In order to now download ebooks purchased from the new account, we need to deregister the iPads and re-register them on the new account. All books on the iPads from the old account will be deleted.

Amazon support says that they cannot migrate Kindle books from the old, inactive account to the new account.

I'm looking for a way to convert the Kindle books now on the iPads to a format that can be saved on the iPad, MacBook or both. Perhaps there is a way to save Kindle book files to the Mac, where I could then use calibre?

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. This is making me crazy.

Authors' sort in Kindle Paperwhite

$

Hello there !
I'm using the last Kindle Paperwhite 32 GB and Calibre 3.48.
Everything runs fine when transferring azw3 ebooks from Calibre to Kindle, however when trying to sort books by authors in the Kindle, they appear sorted as:
First Name, Last Name (eg: Albert Camus, before Charles Andler)

I would have expected books sorted as:
Last Name, First Name (eg: Charles Andler, before Albert Camus)

The metadata in calibre are sorted correctly, and in the Device Window, when I click on the author column, they sort as Last Name, First Name...
In the Kindle 'document' directory, names appear correctly as 'Camus, Albert'.
(In calibre send to device options, the setting is {author_sort}/{title} - {authors}, as expected)

I suppose the problem lies in the way the Kindle reads the azw3 metadata calibre sends.

Is there a way to resolve this ?

Thanks.

Uploading to Calibre from an ereader?

I have used Calibre for years (app. 1300 books) and I have an old Sony Prs-T2 with app. 100 books on it. Now some time ago I lost my hard drive on my PC and backup didn't have all my books on it (my fault). I have recovered most books but I have about 20 books on my ereader where I can't find where I purchased them from and I don't want to have to rebuy them. Now I thought that some years ago I could upload to Calibre from my device. All my books are epub. Any suggestions on how I can upload these books. Many thanks :help:

Imac communications problem

I just updated my iMac operating system to Catalina which is 64 bit. I've been using the same Kindle for years to access books on Calibre. Ever since I unstalled Catalina on my iMac whenever I try to download a book from Calibre a message pops up on the Calibre site that it cannot communicate with the device. ]
Is my problem because my new operating system is 64 bit and the Kindle is 32 bit? Please help. I am very frustrated.
Thanks.
