Problem I haven't had before. I can't import Kobo files into Calibre. Using Windows 10, I have deleted and redownloaded the book. Deleted and redownloaded the app and redownloaded the book (any book - I tried additional ones that I've downloaded before). This worked fine a month ago. Any ideas? I do have Adobe 2.0 installed and downloaded epub (which is likely kepub).
When I import, I get an error. Here are the details:
Failed to add the file C:\Users\Steph\AppData\Local\Kobo\Kobo Desktop Edition\kepub\5b6f5657-f0b5-455f-8fab-826bc26404d3 to the book: 5b6f5657-f0b5-455f-8fab-826bc26404d3

No device is connected
I saw that this topic was brought up and answered about 7 years ago. Well, I guess things must have changed in Calibre, because that advice doesn't work anymore.
Background: I have a Samsung S8+ and I *NEVER* want to use it to link with Calibre. I prefer to use DROPBOX for that purpose to keep my library (and I mean ALL my library) in the cloud and on my devices and my PC. Also, I'm using Win 10 Pro (all the latest updates) and latest version of Calibre (as of this writing, it's v3.46.0)
Having said that, I first tried to follow the advice that Kovid gave. Specifically that I should go into PREFS:PLUGINS, and disable the Android driver. And I did that. But here's the problem. The next time I go and plug in my phone again, followed by starting Calibre again, it seems to have forgotten that I have the Android driver disabled and it starts some dang JOB where it's scanning for I don't know what. And even though the first time this happened, I let it run for about 10 minutes before I realized that it was doing *something*, it never seemed to finish that 3rd job.
So far, the only way I can get this to work is for me to either disconnect my phone which is inconvenient for my needs, or I need to bring up the SAFELY REMOVE USB option and disconnect the device. Which means my question comes down to this:
Why do I have to go through all this rigmarole EVERY TIME?
When Calibre sees my phone connected, it brings up all these darn DEVICE icons wrongly assuming that I want to use Calibre to sync books back and forth between my PC and my phone. Of course, I never ever want to do that, and even if I click on the DEVICE icon, or if I click on the drop-down arrow for the DEVICE icon, none of those options allow me to disconnect Calibre from the device (my phone). And, yes, I noticed that there was an option for PREFS:IGNORED DEVICES, and when I open it, I see my Kindle Fire device in the IGNORED top box, and an "Android Device" in the bottom DISABLED box. I don't know if this is correct, but I *think* I need to somehow create an entry in the TOP box for my phone, but since it never completes whatever job it's doing, I never get a chance to make any changes to devices because Calibre keeps telling me that:
"ERROR: Cannot kill job: Cannot kill jobs that communicate with the device"
Could someone please tell me why it's even trying to connect in the first place, and further, can someone tell me how to make it stop doing this? (ie. make it IGNORE my phone?)
Thanks for any help and/or enlightenment that any of you could please provide.
When I try to send books from Calibre to my Kindle fire I get the following error message

Hi everyone, I don't understand how the "real page numbers based on the print edition [some ISBN]" on Amazon are supposed to work.
For example, this book is given as length 242 pages, BUT the ISBN they say it is sourced from is the hardback edition which has 256 pages.
The ebook edition at Goodreads also shows 256 pages.
So if I want to get the most accurate "real" page numbers so I can coordinate with someone else using a paper edition, should I accept the one provided by Goodreads (256) or the one on Amazon (242)?
And why would there be these inconsistencies anyway?
I have no problems with my fire OS 5.3.6.4 but it will not recognize my fire OS 6.3.0.1 and it is not full, its brand new so there is nothing on it. i have tried all previous advice on here and nothing works. PLEASE HELP !!!!!!
I used to send books to my kindle library by email from Calibre. Unfortunately it seems to have stopped working. I have updated Calibre, rebooted my computer and still no success.
I have altered the mail address but this is the message I get.

I just got a Kobo Forma and I'm having some problems with setting up collections. I'm not sure if I'm just misunderstanding something, doing something wrong or hitting a bug.
I've tried using the Kobo Touch plugin and the Kobo Touch Extended plugin with similar results.
I have two custom columns set up:
#genre - Text but with a fixed set of permitted values.
#reading - Column built from other columns, behaves like tags (which is always "Read", "Unread" or "Reading").
In the plugin collections settings I have collections turned on and put in "#genre, #reading" and have create/delete checked.
I have metadata management set to automatic.
I haver transferred all my books to the device and disconnected and reconnected multiple times to try to get all the metadata and collections synced across but I'm hitting issues.
The collections for all of the #genre values are getting created just fine. #reading though doesn't seem to be working ok. With the Kobo Touch Extended plugin it created a collection for 'Unread' but none of the other options. When I switched to the Kobo Touch plugin it then also created the 'Reading' collection. But the 'Read' collection never shows up.
If all the above steps fail, go to Preferences->Miscellaneous and click debug device detection with your device attached and post the output in this forum - here it is:
I have downloaded and installed the binary Calibre 3.46 after having successfully used Calibre + Oasis Kindle for some time. Problem is now that I can import books into my library, convert them, view them but not transfer to my Oasis.

Mobi file is DRM free. Calibre version is 3.46 (Mac). macOS is Sierra (10.12). Tried using Send to Kindle - unsuccessful. Then attempted using my Amazon Kindle email, also NG. Bypassing Calibre with Kindle-to-laptop transfer also proved fruitless, as did a restart. Am at a loss as to what else to try.
One of the biggest frustrations is that when I upload an ebook from Kindle it doesn't appear and that I have to search the whole damn Kindle library on Calibre. How do I prevent this error from happening so I don't have to make the neck-breaking journey?
I am the owner of a chromebook recently (due to the loss of my PC). But here's my problem.
I would like to be able to install the Calibre program in order to manage my beautiful little digital library. Only when I start the procedure, the installation refuses to start. Am I to understand that it is impossible to install it on this type of laptop?
A curious thing is happening and I can't work out why.
Firstly, I have had endless trouble getting my Kobo Forma to connect to my PC and Kobo support was perhaps the most useless support I have ever experienced. In the end I found that one USB port (out of 9 on my computer) works and just one specific cable (not the Kobo supplied one). On my mac, it just worked. Ok, rant over, now onto my Calibre problem!
If I sync books from Calibre to my Kobo, these books end up in the recycle bin. At first I didn't notice and would empty my recycle bin without checking and then wonder why the books were completely disappearing from my Calibre library and computer! Now I realise they are going into the Recycle Bin but I cannot see how or why that is happening. Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Further info that may help:
When I plug in my Kobo I often get the error from Windows 10 that there is a problem with the device and that it needs to be scanned. When I scan it, it says no problems were found
I have a Kobo Forma, Windows 10, Calibre 3.46 and the following extensions: KoboTouchExtended 3.1.5, KePub Metadata Writer 3.0.3 and Kobo Utilities 2.8.0
Edit: books are stored on a hard drive and I only add books through the Calibre app (by dragging and dropping them into the library in the app)
Since very recently, I have this error popping when I connect my Kobo Glo and open Calibre (version 3.46.0) :
Code:
Failed to access files in the main memory of your device. You should contact the device manufacturer for support. Common fixes are: try a different USB cable/USB port on your computer. If you device has a "Reset to factory defaults" type of setting somewhere, use it. Underlying error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: 'E:\\driveinfo.calibre'

I tried hard reset several times, and each time I can reproduce these steps :
-I can sync my ebooks with Adobe Digital Editions normally.
-But as soon as I connect the Kobo to Calibre, I get the above mentioned error message.
-After that, if I deconnect and reconnect the Kobo, Windows 10 tells me : "This drive has a problem, click to analyse and repair it". If I do repair, Windows does not show error message anymore... as long as I no not open Calibre.
Moreover, when I open the reader drive in explorer, I notice that all the folders appears as shortcuts, with for instance the target "C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start swf.wsf&start explorer Banks," "Iain" "M_&exit"
I have the latest calibre for windows on my computer and a kindle 8HD. Once calibre asked me if I wanted it to manage my books on my kindle too. I said yes. Now everytime I open calibre it starts to read the library on my kindle. I have lots of books on my kindle. I have left the kindle connected for over a day and it still not complete the reading the library. In the meantime, I cannot do anything else with the kindle. I have other books that I would like to add.
Is there a way to stop calibre from managing the library on my kindle? If so, how do I do it?
I found my old Sony PRS600 in a drawer and wanted to use it again. I charged it and is still has some books on it but I wanted to add some new ones.
I started Calibre but it doesn't detect my reader. The reader shows that it is connected via USB but calibre doesn't do anything. I have no other devices connected to my laptop
I am running it on a MacBook Pro with macOS Sierra.
Any idea what to do?
Thank you very much for your help!:help:

My laptop crashed and they had to do a data backup and then wipe my computer. My biggest issue now is there any way to get my previous Calribre settings/preferences/plugins?
