I group certain books in series named after the exam for which I need them.
After changing to that way I updated all the metadata in Calibre and tried to update the copies on my Inkpad X with the "update cached metadata"-function in Calibre.
Sadly, the Inkad still shows only the outdated metadata.
See log below from trying to update the meta on the reader. It states, that indeed something called metadata has been transferred. But what data is that and how come that my pocketbook can't make use of it?
(Yeah, maybe it is a reader-issue. But before heading over there, I'll wait for a explanation about the what, why and how in this forum.)
Am I doing something the wrong way here?
Please give me an explanation on how to update metadata on a Pocketbook without having to re-upload the books. I mean, I could do that, but then I would like to know what happens to notes I made while reading these books? Are they deleted or are they added/attached to the newly uploaded copy of the book?

I am trying to connect my Kindle Paperwhite 7 to Calibre on my Slackware Linux and I am having problems.
With the device unplugged, I can't see anything mounted (obviously)
Code:
root@liet:~# mount | grep -i kindle
root@liet:~#
thenk I just plug the Kindle, still nothing mounted, but I can see the device in my file browser and it is seen in /var/log/messages:

I'm sorry if I write the same thread already written in another section, but I don't know how to delete the previous one, in the Amazon Kindle section, and I think this section is more suitable for my problem.
I'm having trouble viewing my ebooks, treated with Calibre, and sent to my Kindle Paperwhite 2019.
In the beginning I passed all my books in .mobi or .azw3 format and they were displayed perfectly, with the title in the format I chose and with the cover. Then suddenly, after doing a synchronization of my Kindle, but I don't know how influential this operation can be with the problems that arose.
The first problem was not to display the covers on Kindle home, both for the .mobi and for the .azw3 format.
I solved this problem, but only for .mobi files by selecting the "Enable sharing of book via facebook ..." item in the "preferences -> output options -> mobi output" section, activating the same option in "azw3 output" for however the .azw3 format does not change anything.
The second problem instead concerns the title of the books displayed on the Kindle, before everything worked well, now no longer.
For the .azw3 format everything ok, I set in preferences in "metadata plugboards"
azw3: KINDLE2 = ([{pubdate} {series: ||:} {title}] -> title})
While for the .mobi format I see only the title of the book even if in "metadata plugboards" I have set
mobi: KINDLE2 = ([{pubdate} {series: ||:} {title}] -> title})
By unchecking the "Enable sharing of book via facebook ..." item in the "preferences -> output options -> mobi output" section in the .mobi format I do not see the covers nor the title of the book in the format I would like.
I'm having an issue that I hope someone can help me with.
So I'm using a kindle paperwhite running version 5.12.4
my calibre version is 3.48.0
MAC laptop running OSX El Capitan version 10.11.06
I've been using Calibre(great program by the way) for many years now. I use the send to device button to send all my sideloaded books to my kindle. Everything has been smooth until 3 days ago. 3 days ago any new book I send to my kindle the cover art shows for a second then reverts to the default no cover art image. All the previously added books still show all their cover art. Now did some testing and found that the cover art will stay on my kindle when wifi is off. The moment I turn wifi on(which has been on as default for years now on my kindle) that's when the newly added books lose their cover art.
Not sure what the issue is. I have not touched any settings in Calibre. It's driving me bonkers lol. Someone please help.
from one moment to another, Calibre does not recognize my Kobo One.
The parameters and the error message:
Aura One (SW 4.20.14601)
Calibre 4.16 (at 4.15 it was the same) withKobo Utiliies 2.11.0,
on a Win 7/64 computer.
The error message "Fehler beim Kommuniziern mit dem Gerät"
my translation: "error while communication with device"
and the text in the clipboard is:

I tried different USB cables, same error....
Does anybody has an idea where the error came from and whats to do?
So I decided to upload books from my Kindle to put into my Calibre because I realized there were some edits I have to make to the titles. I then put them back in the Kindle. But then I noticed that this time the ebooks have no covers. I am not the only one struggling with this right? And if so any solutions?
Hi guys, Ive edited some (academic) books metadata with Calibre and within the app I can see all the authors perfectly, but when I transfer them to my Kindle with the Send to Kindle app if a book has multiple authors I can only see one, precisely the first one, about the others nothing to do.
I use the ampersand syntax like: Name1 Surname1&Name2 Surname 2 etc.
Its correct or Im getting something wrong? Thank you
device: Kindle Paperwhite 2013 - Firmware 5.12.2
programs: Calibre v4.16.0 - Send to Kindle v1.1.1.250 - Windows 10
I have a Calibre server set up in ubuntu and calibreweb in docker. I'm using a reverse proxy so I can access calibre via calibreweb.mydomian.com.
I can access it fine, see all the books on any device using the above address. (I have a mix but mostly comics right now)
However whenever I try to read a comic (but any book as well) nothing happens. I can select to download but it never downloads. I can't read in the browser.
I've been trying on my iPad but it does the same on my desktop Mac.
All - apologies if these questions have been asked. I searched the forums but could not find the answers to the following questions.
I am very much interested in the Remarkable 2 coming out in June timeframe. One thing that interest me above and beyond the note taking capability is the ability to read epubs (DRM free) on the device. This essentially could replace my Kindle/Ipad and notebooks.
1. Does Remarkable connect to Calibre which is my primary way of porting books onto my reading device?
2. Does anyone know how the Remarkable handles the metadata I have in Calibre? In other words, like most I use Calibre to organize my books especially the series by keeping them in order. So the basic question is when I transfer books to the Remarkable will it also take the series order and that's what I see.
Hope these questions make sense and someone can give me some insight into these very important topics before I order one. Thanks in advance.
After getting the update for Calibre, I can't seem to add another ebook these days. Like I add it through Calibre but it never shows on my Kindle after I put it in. Anyone seeing this problem?
I apologize if this is a duplicate, but I couldn't find anything directly related. I recently have been trying to add a book from Calibre to my Kindle, and it will say on Calibre that it is on the device. When I disconnect, the book is there for a few seconds, and then disappears. It can't be searched, it is not being indexed... it's just gone.
I've been consistantly seeing an appcrash for calibre-parallel.exe in Windows Reliability History whenever I close out an ePub while using the Calibre Reader over the past several versions of Calibre 4 (I'm on 4.16 as of now).
This is no big deal since it's not doing any harm, and the app itself isn't crashing, but I was still curious if anyone happens to know what could be going on or provide some guidance. Thannks in advance!
I'm a total newbie and it feels like I'm definitely missing something basic, but here goes.
I just updated calibre and am no longer able to transfer files manually to my ipad mini. I transfer my epub files to Marvin and pdf files to my Kindle app. In the past, I would connect via USB/iTunes and simply select the books in Calibre and drag them over to the files section. I recently updated to 10.15.5 catalina so now the ipad opens via the finder menu. That all works fine. I am able to open the mini, see the files, delete the files, etc.
When I go to calibre to select the files, I can select a group of files using the mouse and Shift, but when I go to drag them, the group unselects itself and selects only one book. When I try to drag just one book, it simply doesn't go.
I have made sure that everything is at the latest version--imac, ipad mini, and calibre. I have tried another mouse in case something crazy was going on with my mouse. I have rebooted everything in case, well, in case whatever. I have no idea what is going on.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I hope I'm just missing something that I should be doing! I've got some books that I'm ready to read! :help:
Thank you.
Here's the debug info I ran.

Hello people.
Sorry if this is not the right section, please move my request elsewhere.
When I send books to my PaperWhite, I can only send one by one.
I cannot send more than one book.
Is there a way to solve that?
I need to send more than 20 pfd exported to MOBI and I cannot open&close the app 20 times!
I have no problem deleting books from my Kindle Paperwhite, but am curious about what actually happens.
I find that when I "Remove" a book by holding on its thumbnail and choosing Remove from Device, it does delete the .awz3 or other format file. But, I still see the folder for the book if I look under Documents. I'm not sure about that book's cover thumbnail, as those are kind of cryptic.
I'm under the impression that a Kindle "Remove" leaves some remnants of the book. Is that correct? I've read that restarting clears those up, but I'm not sure.
My Kobo Forma stopped communicating with Calibre today and gives a message "Error Communicating with Device". It still appears to communicate with the Kobo app on my Mac (Catalina). It has worked like a champ till tonight. It occurred after I sent some new books to the Device. I couldn't find them on the Forma, so I reconnected to the Mac and the error came up. The Forma shows up under Device, but has 0 books in Calibre. The Forma still appears to work fine.
Any ideas? I am bummed!

I have a Kobo Glo HD and I use it with Calibre, both updated at the latest version available as of this day. I have some books series I want to upload to the Kobo and have the ability to see them in their order. Calibre correctly reports the book series in the metadata (I compiled it myself), however, when I upload the books to my Kobo, when I go to series or collections there isn't any book. If I go to the author and then sort the books by series, nothing happens, so I think the Kobo is ignoring the series tag. What can I do?
I recently inherited a used Kobo eReader Wifi (there's no other model name; I think it was purchased new in 2014). I was unable to add ebooks to it with Calibre, so I tried factory resets, from the Settings menu and also manually. Now I get the following error every time I try to connect the device to a computer with Calibre (same error on both Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.04):
calibre, version 4.18.0
ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device

File "site-packages/calibre/devices/kobo/driver.py", line 175, in device_database_connection

The Kobo is now empty and completely useless. Any suggestions for dealing with this error would be greatly appreciated!
How do I code a footnote so that I can click on it, get the popup, close it or hit [Back], and be back where I was?
I edit the epub version and convert to KFX using the plugin before side loading to the Kindle
Right now it seems the only way I've found is to use a pair of <a> ... </a> pointing at each other which doesn't seem to make the popup. I haven't bothered to do tha for a long time since it takes a lot of effort to get the IDs and everything to work
