No longer able to connect to Kindle from Calibre

I have been using Calibre for several years with no problem connecting to my Kindle (3rd Gen) from my laptop using Win 7. However, my laptop has now died and I am unable to connect Calibre to my Kindle using either my desktop pc or another laptop, both running Win 7.

The Kindle shows up in windows as a removable drive but Calibre will not connect. I can open the documents folder but can't access the driveinfo.calibre folder.

I get the following error message:

calibre, version 2.30.0
ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device

If you device has a "Reset to factory defaults" type of setting somewhere, use it. Underlying error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: 'L:\\driveinfo.calibre'

I have tried running v2.44.1 but the results is the same.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
